Palin... Out!

Wow this comes as a surprise. We'll have to wait and see what comes of it all as it seems rather unclear as to her motives. Of course, I have my speculations, but rather than stick my foot in my mouth (I'm really getting tired of the bitter aftertaste), I will wait with the rest of the U.S..
Interesting timing, nonetheless...
Buh-bye, "Bible Spice"!

I Agree AND Disagree With This One...
PARIS — President Nicolas Sarkozy said the Muslim burqa would not be welcome in France, calling the full-body religious gown a sign of the “debasement” of women.
In the first presidential address to parliament in 136 years, Sarkozy faced critics who fear the burqa issue could stigmatize France’s Muslims and said he supported banning the garment from being worn in public.
“In our country, we cannot accept that women be prisoners behind a screen, cut off from all social life, deprived of all identity,” Sarkozy said to extended applause at the Chateau of Versailles, southwest of Paris.
“The burqa is not a religious sign, it’s a sign of subservience, a sign of debasement _ I want to say it solemnly,” he said. “It will not be welcome on the territory of the French Republic.”
MY TAKE:
I agree with Sarkozy and the Frenchmen who agree with him on the level of feeling uncomfortable with the way they look and I see how it could create suspicion. But on the other hand I don't see how it's right to ban burqas alltogether. The only women they are "debasing", if that's even what is being done, are themselves. If they wish to be "prisoners", then they should be. Why do others need to tell them how to dress? Perhaps in private institutions people can place certain dresscode restrictions on patrons, but really, this isn't right.

She's smart enough to know she can't feed herself. She's actually a very smart cat. She gets loved. She gets adoration. She gets petted. She gets fed. And she doesn't have to do anything for it, which is why I say this cat's taught me more about women, than anything my whole life." --on his cat

Us and Them
Now there have been harsh criticisms of Wiki because of the fact that it's an open forum, anyone can change data on a page there. But. I have found thus far in my academic pursuits that Wikipedia has thus far proven to be a pretty good resource (I've also heard the same affirmation from professors). So, in short let me say, if you're really and truly interested in finding out all the facts, look beyond Wikipedia. This I've done on this very topic of bipartisan politics in our country, but I wanted to offer up a quick explanation for anyone interested.
Why I like these two sites for explanations on Conservatism and Liberalism is because of the psychological and sociological studies that were included. This not only gave me a clearer idea about what makes the average Conservative and Liberal tick, but also heightened my awareness of all the different offshoots within each party and school of thought. I did this research for my own personal interest, as political sociology is an area I plan to study further - I hope to be minoring in poly. sci. and history at university come fall - my major is soc., of course.
If this were biased information, I wouldn't give it credence in terms of garnering truth. Biased information only gives insight into the details of current waves within a school of thought - that's why it's interesting to read both Conservative and Liberal blogs, news forums, etc.
Anyway, without further ado, I present to you Liberalism and Conservatism. Enjoy.
